Did you guys know that I’m a Taurus (earth sign gang gang) which means I absolutely craveeee routine and a major creature of habit. When work isn’t calling me to travel or shooting content for partnerships or personal, I’m usually eating the same thing for lunch during the week. Now give or take some weeks are crazy but I try and stick to this routine, especially with my workout routine too.
Since moving to LA in 2022, I’ve become obsessed with the farmers markets here because the produce is just SO good! I’m trying to ween myself off of grocery store produce along with some other things just because the quality of the food is so much better at the farmers markets along with knowing where I’m getting my food from. It’s just another form of self care and knowing what is going inside my body.
Plus…*whispers* it’s cheaper! Also, depending on the farm the produce lasts wayyyy longer.
Sooo, I’m going to give you my breakdown to the farmers market for my weekly stock up with some tips along the way!
My favorite farmers market right now: Hollywood Farmers’ Market every Sunday 8am-1pm (no lie, I get there around 7:45am so I’m in and out because it gets packed)
What I always, always get! Every-time without a doubt…
lemons & limes: for my daily water intake, any dressings/marinades I’m making, finishing garnishes for any dish, etc.
avocados: salads, breakfast, lunch, whatever! always avocados
fresh herbs: flat leaf parsley & cilantro. I use this for a lot of my garnishes for dishes, marinades or just added a pop of freshness to any dish
red onions, yellow onions & garlic: need I say more…they go in almost everything I make lol
strawberries & blueberries: I add them to my yogurt bowls, smoothies and Grey baby (my dog lol) gets fruit treats since he’s on a diet.
cherry tomatoes & cucumbers: these are for my salads!
Ok, let’s move on to the meats *pause…teehee
I like to switch up my protein during the week. Let’s say I made a lot of seafood dishes for content that means I’'m going to add at least some beef and or chicken to the mix.
seafood: I stop by fave seafood vendor and always buy a 1/2lb-1lb worth a salmon for my salads or anything I want to make and I’ll usually grab something else like halibut or cod to switch it up.
…and I always have some jumbo shrimp in the freezer!
beef: I’m always going to grab a piece of steak like hanger or skirt. It’s always good to add some steak into your weekly meals.
chicken: I’m always gonna grab boneless skinless chicken thighs or chicken breasts. Just depends on the week or what I’m making.
After I grab my meats I move on to my veggies for my salads & etc. for the week!
little gems & red lettuce: I grab these for my salads for the week or whatever I’m gonna use the lettuce for like sandwiches, etc. I promise you buying your salad greens from the farmers market they will last so much longer then the bag at the grocery store
brussels, green beans & broccolini: I TRY and hence try and grab some veggies for the week. This just depends on what I’m making for the week, newsletter or content!
…and just like that I’m back home to do some prep for everything I got!
wash my fruits: I use Trader Joes fruit & veggie wash
storage: I use these storage containers from Amazon to store my fruits & veggies. I dampen paper towel and place them on top of the lettuce & veggies and also at the bottom of the storage for my fruit
you also need a salad spinner in your life! I also use this to clean my fruits & veggies.
fresh herbs: dampen a paper towel and throw them in a ziplock bag. They will stay fresh for about a week!
any produce that is not in a vacuum sealed bag, since I usually cook them within a week I just place in a ziplock bag
That’s it for my weekly farmers market haul! Happy eating!
Ok, Earth Sign (I too am a Taurus)! I think the "craves organization" trait missed me when they were handing out Zodiac Signs LOL
Experienced all of this in Salinas Saturday. I thought I walked into heaven.
